Steps from Normal

So I went to see a play at Gordon College with my AP English pals and others. Before the play started I went into a room filled with photography. While viewing the photos, Stephanie Chin shoved a pen and a CVS receipt down my throat and told me to write a poem about one of the pictures* - I followed the order.

This is the photo I chose, I forgot to copy down the photographer's name
So to avoid being sued, I own no part of this picture

Steps from Normal

Distorted and contorted with changes in
Perspective, the collective walks with
Obsessive thoughts
Without a determined direction

They step along stones not meant for shoes
The risk of infection grows because
The side is filthier than the ground
If spun around they will stay the same

People staring, caring apathetically
They're used to the difference
Because each existence is based
Regrettably where the wind hits

The group does not blow with the currents
Nor pay for insurance
Life is too short to pay for their death
Each step takes them away from their breath

Unclear of purpose, they sleep on the surface
The layout fades with a turn of a head

This is the back of the CVS coupon paper
I must have looked strange scribbling on a receipt,
That's okay

*Please note my exaggeration, Stephanie Chin would never harm me with items from her purse... I hope.
